About the Thiessen Saskatoon

The Thiessen Saskatoon is a well-loved prairie variety known for producing some of the largest, sweetest berries of all Saskatoons. This hardy, dependable shrub performs exceptionally well in northern climates, offering high yields of flavorful fruit ideal for fresh eating, baking, and preserves. Its uniform ripening and large berry size make it a favorite for both home gardeners and commercial growers alike.

In early to mid-spring, the Thiessen Saskatoon displays clusters of delicate white flowers that brighten the landscape before giving way to rich blue-purple berries by early summer. Through the growing season, its dark green foliage remains lush, turning brilliant shades of orange and red in the fall—adding ornamental appeal to its productivity.
