About the Siouxland Cottonwood
The Siouxland Cottonwood is a hardy, exceptionally fast-growing tree valued for its rapid growth, adaptability, and impressive mature size. Well-suited to shelterbelts, windbreaks, and large open areas, this reliable prairie favorite thrives in a variety of soil types and stands up well to northern climates and strong winds. As a seedless male cultivar, it avoids the cottony seed fluff associated with wild cottonwoods, making it a cleaner choice for yards and acreages.
In spring, the Siouxland Cottonwood leafs out with glossy, triangular deep green leaves that shimmer and rustle in the wind. Through summer, its broad, spreading canopy provides outstanding shade and shelter, quickly becoming one of the tallest features on the landscape. The tree's furrowed gray bark and strong upright form make it both a fast-establishing windbreak component and a striking specimen tree. In fall, the leaves turn a bright golden yellow before dropping, adding vivid late-season color.
