About the Manitoba Maple
This species is expert grown in a greenhouse facility.
The Manitoba Maple, also known as Boxelder, is a hardy and fast-growing native tree valued for its adaptability and rugged nature. It thrives in a wide range of soils and conditions, making it a dependable choice for shelterbelts, windbreaks, and naturalized areas. This tough prairie survivor has long been appreciated for its resilience and ability to establish quickly, even in challenging environments.
In early spring, the Manitoba Maple produces clusters of small greenish-yellow flowers before leafing out into compound foliage of bright green leaves. Throughout summer, it forms a broad, rounded canopy that offers excellent shade and protection from wind. The bark is light gray and develops a rough, furrowed texture with age, giving the tree a weathered, rustic charm. As autumn arrives, the foliage turns soft yellow, marking the changing seasons before the tree settles into dormancy for winter.
