About the Delta Hackberry
The Delta Hackberry (Celtis occidentalis var. tenuifolia) is a rugged, fast-growing native tree well-suited to the Canadian Prairies. With its distinctive corky bark, arching branches, and broad crown, it brings strong character to shelterbelts, riparian areas, and larger landscapes. This drought-tolerant species thrives in a variety of soils, including heavy clay, and is valued for its adaptability, resilience, and wildlife benefits. Birds are especially drawn to its small, sweet berries in late summer and fall.
